Hunt Limitless Technology: Redefining Aerodynamics for Carbon Wheels

Hunt Bike Wheels is an innovative player in the field of bicycle wheels. With its patented Limitless technology, the British brand pushes the limits of aerodynamics and lightness for carbon wheels. Present on models such as Hunt 40 Limitless Gravel or SUB50 Limitless, this technology offers outstanding performance. Here's all you need to know about this revolutionary breakthrough.

What is Limitless Technology?

Limitless technology is based on a unique approach to the design of carbon rims. Hunt uses a combination of carbon fibre and low-density polymer (0.7 g/cm3 versus 1.6 g/cm3 for pre-impregnated carbon) inserted into specific rim channels. This polymer is co-moulded with carbon during the hardening process, creating a broad and aerodynamic structure without adding unnecessary weight. This innovation allows for wider profiles while maintaining remarkable lightness. With this design, we find a new front external width of 34.2mm for the SUB50 with stunning results. In addition, rims have differentiated widths at the front and rear to maximize performance.

Benefits for carbon wheels

With Limitless, Hunt reduces rotational weight from about 50 to 55 g per rim, a major asset for responsiveness and acceleration. The carbon wheels thus designed offer state-of-the-art aerodynamics, competing with deeper rims, while remaining stable in front of the side winds. For example, the 48 Limitless Aero Disc, optimized for 28 mm tires, surpasses references such as the Zipp 454 NSW or the Enve 4.5 SES, with gains of 1.8 watt at 45 km/h. Their tubeless compatibility and robustness (validated by ISO tests) make them versatile allies.

For which cyclists?

Carbon wheels equipped with Limitless technology are for competitors and enthusiasts seeking a balance between speed and handling. The SUB50 Limitless (1428 g the pair) are suitable for hilly routes, while the 42 Limitless Gravel Aero target fast engravers. Their internal width (22.5 mm to 25 mm depending on the models) ensures optimum compatibility with tires from 28mm to 30mm for the SUB50 40mm to 45mm for Hunt 40 Limitless.

The freewheel body is the mechanism that transmits pedaling effort from the cyclist to the rear wheel. Mavic has developed its own system, called Instant Drive 360 (ID360), which now equips all of its road range from Ksyrium S to Cosmic Ultimate 45. This ratchet mechanism demands rapid engagement, reduced friction and simplified maintenance. Here is its detailed operation.

    Fore Carbon – Mavic

In Mavic, the connection between the rays and the carbon rim does not involve a conventional drilling. Fore Carbon technology uses metal inserts drowned in carbon during moulding, allowing the upper deck of the rim to be completely intact. This system can be found on the flagship models of the range, including Cosmic Ultimate 45, Cosmic SLR 45 and Cosmic SL. This article details the operation of Fore Carbon and its concrete consequences on the rigidity, sealing and weight of the wheel.
