Corima Essentia 42: Map made in France at floor price

The Corima Essentia 42, unveiled at the beginning of 2026, marks a clear strategic turn for the Drômois manufacturer. At 1190 € the pair for 1510 g of carbon made in Loriol-sur-Drôme, Corima does not just throw a wheel endurance — the brand claims that one can produce in France, with hub owners, without blowing up the budget. Behind this prize is a series of technical choices assumed that deserve to be husked.

A strategic focus: The road on one side, the gravel on the other

Lentia 40 played the tote board: rim hookless, ASTM2, tire compatibility up to 45 mm. With the Essentia 42, Corima is behind and for our greatest happiness.

Back to rim hooked, ASTM1 classification (road only), recommended tires in 28-30 mm, max pressure of 6.7 bar in 28 mm. The Essentia 42 is a road wheel. Point. For the gravel, Corima just announced the 50G. The brand assumes that wanting to do everything with one rim is to compromise everywhere.

The internal width increases to 22 mm (compared to 21 mm on the Essentia 40), external to 30 mm, the profile gains 2 mm. And above all, abandoning hookless in favor of hooked allows for higher pressures and wider tire compatibility. Paradoxically, the rim « less modern » on paper offers more flexibility of daily use.

Made in France at 1190 € : How Corima holds this price

That's the number. 1190 € for a pair of carbon wheels made in France, with hubs owners. In a market where almost all the carbon wheels at this level of price come out of Asian factories, Corima takes the lead.

How does the brand get there? Making clear prioritisation choices. No ceramic bearings, stainless steel ring bearings, reliable and replaceable. No carbon or aero rays, classic stainless steel rays in R2 lacing with external heads, a proven and easy to maintain scheme. No eye-catching cosmetic finish, a sober visual at the service of the function.

EVO Ratchet hub at 36 engagement points: Corima refuses to subcontract its hubs, even on entry-level

Where Corima doesn't lesine, it's on the hub. The EVO Ratchet is a house-to-house ratchet hub with 36 engagement points, or 10° between each point of contact. It is much more responsive than a conventional 3-click system that is usually found in this price range. The cassette body is interchangeable between Shimano HG 11/12v, SRAM XDR and Campagnolo N3W, the compatibility is total. The philosophy is clear: save on the superfluous, invest on what counts mechanically.

What you need to know before you buy

The weight of 1510 g (695 g front, 815 g rear) is honest for a profile of 42 mm at this rate. We're not on a climber's wheel, but on an endurance thought to swallow kilometers on bitumen. The kit is complete: rim bottom, spoke key, tubeless valves and valve nut tool.

The internal width of 22 mm deserves attention. The trend is about 23 mm, and the Corima are down on this point. With a 28 mm tire, the difference remains minimal. In 30-32 mm, this missing millimeter will be felt more on the tire profile.

The other point to be included is the ASTM1 classification: road only. If you make regular detours through paths, it's not the wheel you need. You will have to look at the Fulcrum Wind 42, Zipp 303 S or Mavic Cosmic SL 45, classified ASTM2.

My opinion

The Corima Essentia 42 are a declaration of intent as much as a pair of wheels. Corima proves that in 2026, making carbon in France to less than 1200 € is possible, provided that intelligent technical arbitrations are made. The EVO Ratchet 36-point owner hub is the real asset of this wheel. It's a piece that one would expect to find on much more expensive models.

This convinces: the price, the traceability of manufacturing, the quality of the hub and the consistency of a 100% road positioning assumed.

This makes it tick: the internal width of 22 mm slightly below the current standard, and the total exclusion of any use outside bitumen.

The Corima Essentia 42 are the most aggressive proposal made in France on the market in 2026 in carbon-endurance wheels, provided they accept their vocation exclusively on the road. For those who drive on the road and value the manufacturing origin, it is today the best value for money available.
