CULT – Campagnolo
Campagnolo, a renowned Italian brand, continues to innovate for demanding cyclists. Among its flagship technologies, bearings CULT (Ceramic Ultimate Level Technology) stand out by their ability to optimize the performance of carbon wheels and pedals. Used in high-end products such as Bora Ultra or Super Record, they offer exceptional fluidity and durability. Let's find out more about this technology.
What is CULT technology?
CULT is based on a combination of high quality ceramic bearings and Cronitect® stainless steel tracks, developed by Schaeffler. Unlike standard bearings, these components drastically reduce friction thanks to ceramic balls machined with micrometric precision. Cronitect® steel, thermochemically treated, offer increased resistance to wear and corrosion. Strong point: no heavy lubrication is required, a thin oil layer is sufficient to ensure optimal operation.
Benefits for carbon wheels
CULT bearings transform the pedalling experience. Their friction coefficient is up to nine times lower than that of traditional bearings, resulting in better power transmission – approximately 3.5 watts additional by pedal stroke according to Campagnolo. On carbon wheels like the Hyperon Ultra (1240 g the pair), this fluidity improves responsiveness and reduces energy loss. Moreover, their longevity is impressive: tests show a rotation time up to 5.5 times higher standard bearings.
Who are these bearings for?
This technology targets cyclists seeking excellence, whether they are competitors or passionate amateurs. It is found in the hubs of Bora Ultra WTO carbon wheels or in the Ultra-Torque Super Record pedals. Compatible with 11 and 12 speed transmissions, it is suitable for a wide range of practices, from mountain to time trial. Maintenance remains minimal, at condition to use light oil and clean regularly.
Our recommendations for use
Caution, the use of fat cancels their advantages, prefer fine synthetic oil. Regular monitoring ensures their long-term performance.
