Reminder DT Swiss 2025: What consequences for the brand?

As a bike wheel expert, I am constantly looking for news that impacts the safety and performance of your equipment. The massive reminder launched by DT Swiss in July 2025 on some of their carbon wheels is a critical subject that deserves immediate attention. If you ride with high-end models such as ARC, ERC, CRC or HEC, this article guides you step by step. We will deconstruct the wheels concerned, the defect identified, the risks involved, and above all, the procedure to be followed for a smooth return.

Impact models: Overview

The DT Swiss carbon wheels are known for their lightness, aerodynamics and rigidity, ideal for demanding road or gravel cyclists. Unfortunately, this recall affects a specific range produced in Vietnam from 1 August 2024, with an ID number DT Swiss (ID) from 2740000. The models covered include the ARC series (50, 55 and 65 mm rim heights), ERC (35 and 45 mm), CRC (35 and 45 mm) and HEC (45 mm). This concerns key references such as ARC 1100 DICUT 50/55/65, ERC 1100 DICUT 35/45, or CRC 1400 SPLINE 35/45. Note that lower or higher profiles (such as 38, 62, 80 or 85 mm) and rims made in Poland are excluded – a relief for many users.

Understanding rim delamination

The problem? Spontaneous delamination in the rim hook, this small edge holding the tire. Imagine the carbon layers separating like a mille-feuille that severs: this weakens the rim bed without touching it directly, but overall structural integrity is compromised. According to the analysis of DT Swiss, this defect comes from similar manufacturing processes on their Vietnamese site, even though no incident has been reported on the ARC at the moment. The risks are serious: a rim that drops in full descent or sprint can cause loss of control, serious falls, injuries (fractures, head injuries) or, in the worst case scenario, death. This is a rare but potentially catastrophic scenario, especially at high speed.

Financial figures and consequences

On the statistics side, DT Swiss talks about a « small number » reported incidents – a handful of cases reported mid-July 2025, mainly on ERC/CRC/HEC. No massive official figures, but our sources confirm that « limited number » failure, without explosion of widespread accidents. In Canada, for example, Health Canada reported zero delamination ratio as of July 15, 2025. This suggests an isolated problem, but sufficient to justify a preventive recall on thousands of units (they have shipped hundreds of cartons a day since August).

What about the cost to DT Swiss? Hard to have precise figures, but one can venture into a volume-based estimate. With hundreds of daily returns and rigorous tests (more stringent than ISO 4210), plus free replacements (identical or higher wheels), shipping costs and compensation, the financial impact could be around hundreds of thousands of euros. Add loss in reputation and production stoppages: this is a hard hit for a premium brand, but a proof of their safe commitment. Swiss Side, their partner, is also touched with Hadron models (450, 500, 550, 650 mm), amplifying the scale.

The reminder procedure: step by step

If your wheels match, stop driving! Here is the official procedure, optimized for quick resolution:

  1. Check your product : Locate the Swiss ID DT (adhesive with QR code and 7-digit number) on the rim, often near the valve. Scan the QR or enter the number on the site dedicated to DT Swiss. If this is ≥2740000 and listed as affected, proceed to the next step. Note: Even if the 7-digit lot appears « potentially affected », only the QR scan (full 12-digit number) confirms.
  2. Register : On the reminder page, complete the questionnaire with your contact information. DT Swiss contacts you within 24 hours with custom instructions. If you have a set of wheels (front/rear), save them together, even if only one is affected.
  3. Order shipping cartons : Through a provided link, get two free cartons per record (with assembly instructions). Prepare your wheels: remove tires, discs and cassette if possible (if not, send as is; costs reimbursed via local dealer).
  4. Send and wait : Ship via the specified carrier (costs covered). DT Swiss test in 10-20 working days max (capacity strengthened since August 2025). Internal testing checks the structure beyond standards.
  5. Return or replacement : If OK, wheels returned with sticker « Quality Check » and verifiable via QR (white list updated in 2 days). If defective, immediate free replacement.

For Swiss Side Hadron, follow the same procedure via DT Swiss.

This reminder, although frustrating, strengthens confidence in Swiss DT: they acted quickly, extended to the ARCs as a precaution, and manage massive volumes.
